Artistic Director of Counterpoint Arts
Aanna has had a distinguished solo singing career as a mezzo, both
in the UK and overseas, singing with leading orchestras and conductors
in oratorio and concert.
Renowned as a recitalist, she performed in London’s major Concert Halls,
and has toured Europe and the Far East. She is well known as an
adjudicator and has examined for many years for The Guildhall School of
Music and Drama.
Aanna returned to England in 1998 from France, where she had been living
and working for five years, and established ‘Counterpoint Arts’ with
Rosemary Morris.
Counterpoint Arts, which became a Limited Company in 2001, conducts a
wide range of activities within the arts. As its Artistic Director,
Aanna directs and conducts The Counterpoint Choir, some 50 in number
now, holds Masterclasses, specialist Choral Workshops and arranges
recitals and concerts.
As a young student at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she won a
composing prize for a piano sonata. She has now returned to composition
and written several choral works including The Advent Journey’, ‘Lux
Aeterna’, and ‘Alleluia’ which have been performed by The Counterpoint
Choir’.
Aanna was the mezzo soloist in the first performance of her composition,
Ode to Music’, written for the St.Cecilia’s Day Concert in 2003.
From 2002-5, she directed the Counterpoint Arts Summer Music Festival
which included Choral works, Opera and Recital.
In addition to composing and her work with Counterpoint Arts, Aanna runs
a private teaching practice and composes songs for her pupils who are
preparing for recitals and examinations.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking with her dogs, reading history,
the arts in general and, of course, her family which includes the
‘Counterpoint’ family.
