The Counterpoint Choir started in Herstmonceux in 1998.

After several of the women who had come to a short Workshop series wanted to develop further, a small choir was formed, the men joining us a year later, initially forming  a Chamber Choir.   Total membership is  now around fifty singers.

Choral singers need to be     vocally independent and able to hold their line alone. Counterpoint Choir members are able to do this as they are taught vocal technique and musicianship in rehearsal.

The singing forces of soprano, alto, tenor and bass are well  balanced. Members of the choir represent a cross section of experience, age and occupation.

Francis Rayner is  Counterpoint's outstanding solo pianist. He accompanies the Choir, Opera Group, Recitalists and pupils in national competitions.

David Force has been with Counterpoint since the outset and has been invaluable as a teacher and accompanist.    He is the organist for oratorio and other performances

After six years hard work, the founder members have responded to new repertoire, welcomed new singers and the Choir has gone from strength to strength
